Am 15. Juli 2016 berichtete die US-amerikanische Militärzeitschrift „Stars & Stripes“, dass die US-Army in Europa (USAREUR) ab Oktober 2016 die Tower Barracks, eine bisher von den britischen Streitkräften genutzte Liegenschaft in Dülmen, übernehmen wird, um dort Panzer und weitere Kampfausrüstung zu lagern. In dem Artikel heißt es weiter, die Tower Barracks in Dülmen seien hervorragend geeignet, „um unsere unmittelbaren Anforderungen an ein Ausrüstungslager zu erfüllen, mit großen Lagerhäusern, einem voll funktionsfähigen Schienenkopf und gepflegten Instandhaltungsanlagen“.

Menschen zuerst, nein zum Krieg!

Der diesjährige NATO Gipfel wird der erste des US-Präsidenten Donald Trump sein. Er findet im Brüssel in dem neuen Hauptquartier der NATO statt. Brüssel ist nicht nur Sitz der NATO sondern auch der EU – zwei Institutionen die militärisch eng zusammenarbeiten.

Die NATO und ihre Mitgliedsstaaten beteiligen sich an illegalen Kriegen und Militärinterventionen, von Jugoslawien über Afghanistan, Libyen, Irak, Syrien, im Mittelmeer und bis hin zum Indischen Ozean. NATO beschleunigt die Rüstungsspirale und Militarisierung und steuert somit im großen Ausmaß zu einer internationalen Instabilität bei. NATO bekennt sich weiterhin zu der größten Bedrohung der Menschheit: den Atomwaffen.

Eerst de mensen, nee tegen oorlog

De aankomende NAVO-top zal de eerste zijn waaraan VS president Trump deelneemt. De top vindt in mei plaats in het gloednieuwe NAVO-hoofdkwartier in Brussel, een stad die zowel de NAVO als de Europese Unie huisvest. Van beide organisaties is het militaire beleid nauw met elkaar verbonden.

De NAVO en haar lidstaten voeren illegale oorlogen en militaire interventies van Joegoslavië tot Afghanistan, Libië, Syrië, de Middellandse Zee en de Indische Oceaan. Zij wakkeren de internationale instabiliteit aan en bevorderen de wapenhandel en de militarisering. De NAVO blijft kiezen voor de grootste dreiging van de mensheid: nucleaire wapens.

Le prochain Sommet de l’Otan sera le premier auquel participera le Président des Etats-Unis, Donald Trump. Il se tiendra les 24 et 25 mai dans les tout nouveaux bâtiments du siège de l’Alliance atlantique à Bruxelles, la ville où sont basées l’Otan et l’Union européenne (UE), deux institutions qui coopèrent étroitement dans leurs politiques militaires.

L’Otan et ses Etats membres participent à des guerres et des interventions militaires illégales, en Yougoslavie, en Afghanistan, en Libye, en Irak, en Syrie, dans la mer Méditerranée et dans l’océan Indien. NATO and its member states participate in illegal wars and military interventions, from Yugoslavia to Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, Syria, the Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean. The ‘special relationship’ between Britain and the US, announced by Winston Churchill soon after World War Two, has been toxic from the start. It is a collaboration that has always demanded unswerving support for US superpower aspirations. But the price keeps getting higher.  Thatcher’s partnership with Ronald Reagan involved turning Britain into an offshore nuclear missile launchpad and provided a transatlantic power base for the neoliberal economics that has wreaked such havoc around the world. The Chilcot report made it official that Tony Blair’s ‘I will be with you whatever’ relationship with George Bush was a ‘determining factor’ in Britain’s lead role in the catastrophic war on Iraq.

In reaction to Donald Trump’s election victory, tens of thousands of people, most of them youth, have taken to the streets across the country in militant protests to condemn the racism, sexism, Islamophobia and anti-immigrant bigotry that Trump represents. Many are fearful, especially immigrants, Muslims and LGBT people. Their rage and that of their supporters signify the movement that needs to be built to end racism, wars and the attacks on working people endemic in the U.S. today.
