Nach dem Ultimatum der US-Regierung, das von Russland verlangt hatte – seine angeblich gegen INF-Vertrag verstoßenden Marschflugkörper zu zerstören – haben die USA den INF-Abrüstungsvertrag offiziell gekündigt. Unter dem Titel “Zwei Minuten vor zwölf: Wie kommen wir von den heutigen geopolitischen Konflikten zu weltweiter Abrüstung?“ fand am 12. Mai 2018 in der Judson Memorial Church in New York eine Konferenz zur Warnung vor der gegenwärtigen Atomkriegsgefahr statt. Ziel war es, diese zu analysieren, den Atomwaffensperrvertrag der UN und andere Abrüstungsinitiativen zu propagieren und die US-amerikanische und weltweite Bewegung für Frieden und vollständige Atomabrüstung zu stärken. Der Hauptvortrag mit dem Titel “Die Zukunft der Menschheit” wurde von Noam Chomsky gehalten.
