The U.S. Democratic Party’s massive victory in the country’s November 4 election was a powerful rejection of Trump/MAGA racism and anti-immigrant abuses. People’s power overcame financial and a host of other corruptions. Rule for the technofascists at the expense essential democratic values and institutions is being seriously challenged.
With few exceptions, including the inflationary costs of the Iran war, U.S. foreign and military policies were marginal to the outcome of the election.
President Trump will continue to exercise near monarchical executive powers, and his disregard for the law will complicate efforts to hold his administration accountable. The election did demonstrate popular U.S. exhaustion with Trump’s and Biden’s failed wars. Congressional abilities to influence U.S. foreign and military polices will be limited, but with its power of the purse it may be able to force an end to the Iran war and to oppose Trump’s efforts to massively increase the Pentagon budget. But from dangerous great power competitions to Gaza, Cuba, Venezuela and more the future remains uncertain.
We invite you to join two outstanding U.S. analysts and peace and justice movement leaders to prepare for this uncertain future in which Establishment Democrats and a rising generation of reformers seek to impact polices while Trump/MAGA exercise power during their two-year lame duck .
