BERLIN/RIAD (Eigener Bericht) – Bundeskanzlerin Angela Merkel wird am Sonntag zu Gesprächen über die Kriege in Syrien und im Jemen in der saudischen Hauptstadt Riad erwartet. Dies berichten saudische Medien. Demnach nehmen die Stellvertreterkriege, die Saudi-Arabien zur Zeit gegen Iran führt, neben dem Ausbau der Wirtschaftsbeziehungen eine zentrale Stellung beim Besuch der Kanzlerin in der Golfmonarchie ein. Berlin unterstützt Riad in den Stellvertreterkriegen – politisch, aber auch mit der Lieferung von Waffen, obwohl diese nachweislich im Jemen zum Einsatz kommen. Saudi-Arabien wird wegen des Krieges im Jemen scharf kritisiert: Dieser führt zu zahlreichen Todesopfern unter der Zivilbevölkerung; außerdem provoziert die von Riad verhängte Seeblockade gegen jemenitische Häfen eine Hungersnot. Bereits jetzt sind 2,2 Millionen Kinder im Jemen mangelernährt, 500.000 von ihnen sind vom Hungertod bedroht. Erst im März hat Berlin die Lieferung weiterer deutscher Patrouillenboote an Saudi-Arabien genehmigt, obwohl diese genutzt werden können, um die Seeblockade zu erzwingen. Hilfsorganisationen laufen Sturm.

Am 23.04 fand in Köln ein Vorbereitungstreffen deutscher Friedensorganisationen zur Vorbereitung von Protestaktionen während des nächsten NATO-Gipfels am 24./25.05.2017 in Brüssel statt. Ludo de Brabander von der belgischen Initiative „vrede vzw“ informierte über die internationale Vorbereitung der verschiedenen Aktionen. Während des Gipfels wird das mit 1 Milliarde Dollar sündhaft teure neue Hauptquartier des Militärbündnisses eingeweiht. Es ist der erste Gipfel für die neugewählten Präsidenten der USA (Donald Trump) und Frankreichs. Der US-amerikanische Linguist und kritische Beobachter Chomsky hat dem ORF ein interessantes Interview gegeben. Siehe hier. Der begleitende Text des ORF dazu ist hier einzusehen und unten zitiert und kommentiert. Chomsky macht freimütig klar, dass die Politik von Obama, Clinton und co. nicht sehr viel besser war und dass die Politik dieser Gruppe und ihrer Freunde in Europa mitverantwortlich sind für Rechtspopulismus. Sie sind „Quellen der Wut, der Unzufriedenheit und der Verzweiflung der Menschen“. Albrecht Müller.
